1162 Management of Acute Gallstone Disease at an Urban Acute Trust During the Pandemic – Closed-Loop Audit

Abstract Aim Acute gallstone disease is a surgical emergency with emphasis on early surgery (Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy (LC)) to improve outcomes. Method Patients presenting acute cholecystitis, biliary colic, and pancreatitis between September December 2021 were retrospectively audited. We measured re-admission rates, elective cholecystectomies performed, interval operation initial admission. This revealed need for improvement in the service provided at this trust. An intervention was implemented Hot list being available other surgeons as well encouraging LC Emergency theatre list. A follow-up retrospective audit carried out July 2022 using same criteria per data collection. Results 240 patients admitted during period. At end of period, 49 underwent LC, which only 20% performed acutely. However, 70% operations re-admissions. During re-audit, 109 disease. Within three months, 21% 52% operations. 50% patients. from followed up average waiting time 118.5 days admission Conclusions There almost 3-fold increase rate post intervention. While there an increase, provision does not comply national guidelines. Resources be allocated nationwide timely treatment
